Over the course of two days, the congress featured keynote presentations, panel discussions, business meetings, and numerous networking opportunities.

The Opening Session titled “Strategic Positioning of Peru in the Global Mining Industry” was moderated by Guillermo Quintana, Director at Expansión Minera. The session began with the insights from Silvia Cuba Castillo, Executive President of SENACE, on the role of environmental certification in attracting responsible investment; Luis Humberto Chirif Rivera, President of INGEMMET, on leveraging geoscientific knowledge for national development; and José Rogger Incio Sánchez, Mining Projects Director at ProInversión, on promoting private investment through public-private partnerships. Manuel Viera Flores, President of the Chilean Mining Chamber, addressed regional cooperation amid global competition, while Marcos Antonio Montenegro Criado, General Manager of Activos Mineros SAC, shared state-led efforts in environmental remediation and sustainability. The presence of honored guests from industry, government, and diplomatic missions reinforced the session’s high-level impact.

Session 2, titled “Innovative Technologies and Approaches for Efficient Mining”, was moderated by Andrea Aravena, from Hot Chili Mining. This session showcased how technological advances are transforming mining practices. José Aranibar Aguilar, General Manager of APUMINING, emphasized a forward-looking ESG-based philosophy that positions mining as a contributor to human and planetary well-being. Víctor Casarreal, Latin America Sales Director at LG Chem, discussed the efficiency gains and implementation advantages of reverse osmosis systems in mining operations. Gonzalo Silva, Regional Manager for Valves at Valmet Chile, demonstrated cutting-edge process technologies and automation solutions designed to maximize operational efficiency and sustainability.

Session 3, “Unlocking the Potential of Peru’s Mining Projects,” provided a comprehensive examination of high-impact mining initiatives. Moderated by Enrique Garay, Vice President of Geology at Rio2, this session featured leading developers and technical managers providing updates on project execution and exploration. Giulio Bonifacio, CEO of Alta Copper Corp., presented an update on the Cañariaco Project. Pío Carrasco Viza, Assistant Operations Manager at Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A., highlighted their operational success and commitment to responsible practices. Ian Gendall, CEO and President of DLP Resources, unveiled new findings at the Aurora porphyry deposit. Pedro Maguina Soto, Environmental Superintendent at Compañía Minera Kolpa S.A., emphasized sustainable management protocols, while Jorge Carranza, Project Development Director at Minera Chinalco Perú S.A., shared insights from the Toromocho megaproject expansion. Andrea Aravena, Geology Manager – Chile at Hot Chili Limited, concluded with an overview of the Costa Fuego project in Chile, which included a new porphyry discovery.

Session 4 featured a high-level Round Table on Streamlining the Permitting Process in Peru, moderated by Alexis Zárate Meza, General Manager of Ambiental y Sectorial. The session featured panelists from diverse sectors including Gaby Yulisa Julca Cumbicus (Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines of Piura), Pedro Pablo Huarhua Siclla (Consorcio Minero Horizonte S.A.), Juan Carlos Escalante Lucero (Anthony Mining AMSAC), Gonzalo Salazar Silva (Buenaventura Mines Company), and Miguel Ángel Espichán Mariñas (SENACE). The discussion centered on the need to simplify and coordinate permitting processes to expedite approvals for mining projects while maintaining robust environmental and social safeguards. Emphasis was placed on improving transparency, inter-agency collaboration, and ongoing dialogue among stakeholders, underscoring that efficient permitting is key to unlocking sustainable mining growth in Peru.

The first day concluded with the 2025 Mining Excellence Awards Ceremony, co-hosted by Guillermo Quintana and Mery Martínez, honoring companies that exemplify responsible and innovative mining practices in Peru: Peru Mining Excellence Awards 2025 – 7th International Congress and Exhibition Mining Peru and Latin America

The first day of the congress culminated with the prestigious 2025 Mining Excellence Awards Ceremony, co-hosted by Guillermo Quintana, Director of Expansión Minera, and Mery Martínez, Director of International Business Development at Vostock Capital. This distinguished event celebrated companies that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to responsible, innovative, and sustainable mining practices in Peru. Anglo American Perú, represented by Eduardo Serpa and Jean Pierre Baca, received the award for Technological Innovation in Mining, recognized for their pioneering use of autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, and remote operations at the Quellaveco project. Silver X Mining, led by José María García and Pilar García Egas, was honored for its commitment to Environmental Sustainability and Responsibility, particularly for achieving a 99% water reuse rate and advancing biodiversity conservation efforts. Minera Bateas, with Eduardo Asmat accepting the award, was recognized in the category of Social Development and Community Engagement for its impactful programs, which improve education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the Caylloma region. Minera Chinalco, represented byPatricia Oré and Juan Marceliano, received the Occupational Health and Safety award for its exemplary safety training initiatives and strict adherence to international safety standards. Hudbay Perú, with Eder Lagos as the recipient, was recognized for Operational Efficiency and Productivity, thanks to its successful performance optimization at the Constancia mine. Lastly, Compañía Minera Poderosa, led by José Estela Ramírez, received the Technological Innovation for Energy Efficiency in Mining award for implementing advanced technologies that significantly improved energy efficiency while reducing costs.

Following the awards, a welcome cocktail provided opportunities for informal networking.

Day 2 began with Session 5, “Beyond Traditional Energy Sources,” moderated by Jesús Maraví Camargo, CEO of Exergy Corporation. The session opened with a forward-looking discussion on how hydrogen and energy efficiency technologies can revolutionize mining operations. Renzo Salazar of Cmarkits explored the integration of renewable energy sources into mining supply chains, while Pedro Gamio Aita from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru framed the sector’s energy transition within the broader context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Advances in hydroelectric and renewable energy systems were detailed by Roberto Carlos Tamayo Pereyra, Professor at the National University of Engineering, and José Estela Ramírez of Minera Poderosa shared practical insights from their ongoing energy transition strategy. This session highlighted the crucial role of innovative and sustainable energy solutions in shaping the future of the mining industry.

Session 6, “Digitalization and Advanced Technologies in Mining Exploration,” moderated by Gonzalo Silva of Valmet Chile, delved into the latest technological breakthroughs shaping mineral exploration. José Carlos Valer Davila y García, Visiting Academic at the University of Oxford, presented an AI tool to support economically informed negotiations with the state. Luis Eduardo Rojas Vásquez from Hudbay Perú showcased the application of advanced analytics and system interoperability. Carlos Oré Sánchez of Compañía Minera Poderosa highlighted cutting-edge innovation that opens new exploration frontiers, while Alonso Arturo Marchena Campo from INGEMMET explained the use of AI in prospecting for critical elements. Together, these presentations illustrated how digital transformation is accelerating exploration efficiency and decision-making in the mining industry.

Session 7, “Integrating Infrastructure and Supply Chains to Drive Mining Growth in Peru,” was moderated by Jorge Luis Tomas Florez Salas, Full Professor at Universidad Nacional de Moquegua. The session highlighted the potential of mining to drive infrastructure development and promote social inclusion. Jorge Salem Suito from Minera Antapaccay discussed building resilient and inclusive supply chains, while Enrique Gamarra, Mining Inspector and Mine Closure Plan Evaluator at the Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines of Moquegua, presented the positive developmental impacts of mining on regional growth. Romualdo Zúñiga Medina of Ambiental y Sectorial analyzed how environmental planning affects project costs and feasibility, and Gonzalo Salazar Silva of Buenaventura Mines outlined long-term social management strategies. Pilar García Egas, Sustainability Manager at Silver X Mining, also contributed to the discussion by addressing critical questions on aligning local suppliers’ technical development with global mining standards, enhancing public-private collaboration for supplier training and formalization, and integrating supply chain innovations to boost Peru’s mining efficiency, resilience, and social and environmental responsibility. Overall, the session highlighted the interconnectedness of infrastructure, social responsibility, and sustainable growth in mining development.

The final session, Session 8, a Round Table on Fostering Investment and Enhancing Peru’s Mining Competitiveness, was moderated by Miguel Tito Ascue of Activos Mineros SAC. This discussion gathered institutional leaders, including José Rogger Incio Sánchez (ProInversión), Gaby Yulisa Julca Cumbicus (Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines of Piura), José Aranibar Aguilar (APUMINING), and Catalina Eliana Vargas Torres (Hannan Metals). The panel focused on strategies to improve Peru’s investment climate, promote transparency, and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors. This session emphasized the importance of unified efforts in enhancing Peru’s position as a competitive and attractive destination for mining investments.

The Congress concluded by reinforcing its role as a vital platform to facilitate stakeholder engagement and promote the development of mining projects across Latin America.
